MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream and Eczema & Psoriasis Balm | Review

Edit: I have found that my eczema is actually seborrheic dermatitis. Please refer to my January 2014 post on this topic.

I am inspired to do this post as MY ECZEMA SUDDENLY CAME BACK!

Starting from mid last year I have suffered from eczema on my nose and cheeks. I would suddenly develop a red, bumpy and extremely itchy rash which was really dry and would scale off in the end. This would go on and off for some time and was REALLY infuriating.

My right cheek! Oct ’10

I’ve learnt that the trigger was my Shiseido Extra Gentle Cleansing Foam. I have come to this conclusion as my skin would get dry and itchy every time I’ve used this cleansing foam for more than 2-3 times.

I think I know how this recent outbreak came about. I was wearing a SPF50 sunscreen on Friday, and when I arrived at work I couldn’t stand the way it felt on my skin. So I foolishly used some handwash (it’s the hospital grade drying kind) to take off the sunscreen. It didn’t work of course… But what it DID do was leave my nose so itchy I kept waking up last night!

The one thing that helped me last year during my worst outbreak was MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream.

This cream contains natural ingredients and mostly importantly, MSM (organic sulphur) to soothe irritated skin. Can’t be bothered writing the whole ingredient list so go to MooGoo’s informative website:

This year I’ve also added MooGoo Eczema & Psoriasis Balm to my eczema-fighting army. This balm (more like a cream IMO) contains aloe vera and Matricaria chamomilla extract which is anti-inflammatory.

So when the eczema attacks, I strictly cleanse with Cetaphil only and use these two creams religiously – E&PB first then the MSM – and the outbreak slowly goes away!

Beware though, although it is nice to use them all over your face, they can be pretty heavy and pore-clogging.

The MooGoo range is now pretty established as compared to 2-3 years ago when I first discovered it and it is readily available in many pharmacies. Go to their website for a list of stockists if you live in Australia. I also highly recommend their body wash – it smells divine!

  1. Thanks for the great review.

  2. Oh my god, I have recently been plagued with excema on my hands, and have recently invested, heavily, in shiseido sun cream! The sales pitch was that it is so gentle it can be used on babies. Perhaps this is the problem. Thank you. I too found moo goo excema balm soothing, but picked up excema cream recently not knowing the difference. That defiantly did not calm, sooth or relieve it. I’m almost at my wits end, having paid a homeopath also,to no avail..

    • Hi Louise, the eczema on your hands may be caused by irritants such as food ingredients (I have to wear gloves), laundry detergent, etc or even food allergies. If MooGoo doesn’t soothe, try other natural creams on the market. I recommend keeping your affected skin moisturised at all times. If nothing works, go to your doctor and they might point you to the right direction! Although I don’t recommend using the steroid creams they usually prescribe unless you are really, really desperate.
